This year May 2020 I was turning the big 3-0. I wanted to fly and take a trip to Florida for my 30th birthday. With the covid-19 spread, it definitely changed my plans. As the month of May approached things were opening back up. I decided what I wanted to do for my birthday. I just wanted to be on a boat with my family and some close friends. We originally wanted to camp at Theodore Roosevelt Lake but all the campsites were closed due to the virus. So we had to choose between Globe or Payson at a hotel. We chose Payson because we were going to head up towards Needles, California to stay for 5 days. It was super busy because of Memorial weekend. We headed up towards Payson on Friday. Getting stuck in traffic for an hour was not planned, but there were a lot of travelers heading up North towards Payson.
Friday for dinner we ate at Macky’s Grill, the customer service was so amazing. They were super packed with customers yet they treated everyone with great customer service. The food was delicious. After dinner we went to the Casino in Payson. I definitely had some birthday luck there every machine I played I won at. Saturday we spent the day on Theodore Roosevelt Lake on a boat. Everyone had such a great time. It went exactly how I wanted. Definitely can scratch that off my bucket list. The weather was so perfect all day! The kids swam and got pulled by the boat on an inflatable tube.
Sunday we headed towards California stopped in Flagstaff to eat some Red Lobster. Then we came across Bearizona. We didn’t plan to stop there but we always wanted to go. Seeing all the animals was very neat. You drive in your cars and see all the animals. There are bears, wolves, and bison's. You could also get down and walk in a different area and see other animals. Our favorite was the Jaguars, they're such beautiful animals.
I really enjoyed my 30th birthday, it was spent with some amazing people. I love to going on adventures and see different places. So I may not have flown but I ended up traveling which is what I wanted to do in the first place. When we head back home we are stopping in Sedona. I can’t wait to see that beautiful place. Until the next adventure!
Have you heard that Chalo’s La Casa Reynoso is back!? Their chicken and steak fajitas were my favorite. Not only are they up and running, but they will be adding delivery with Down2Deliver starting on Monday, May 18th.
I’m especially excited because I had my first job at Chalo’s. I was a 15-year-old Freshman at Safford High School. Three of my good friends were already working there. I was very interested in getting a job, so I asked if they were hiring. I was super excited when I got hired on.
I started out as a busser, cleaning all the tables after the customers left. I did that for a while until I got moved up to a waitress. Training to be a waitress was pretty exciting. I learned all the abbreviations for the food we had on the menu. Carrying more than two plates out to the customers was so much fun. Each crew helped each other, by running plates out to their tables. Sitting customers in their sections and taking drink orders. Some sections in the restaurant were busier than others. So we all made sure we took care of one another. We each had our own duties to help keep the restaurant clean and stocked. I met some great people working at Chalo’s. The management was great. They treated us all like family. Thursday nights we served all you can eat ribs. Those nights were super busy and I remember we were always so packed. The bar was always so busy as well. Chalo’s being back it makes me think of all the great memories I had working there. It was a big part of my high school years. I’m super happy that Shane brought it back to our Gila Valley community.
Be sure to call in an order a green chili relleno with a side of rice and beans next time you get hungry for authentic food from the World Famous Salsa Trail!
