Hey, from Special Kay! I recently moved to Graham County from Bullhead City, Arizona; however, I was raised in Minnesota, BRRRR! I know, right. I came to Safford with no real idea of what to expect. It was in May 2019; I came to check it out.
After a Beautiful Nine-Hour Drive Luckily I ended up eating at La Casita Cafe; it looks like a little castle in Thatcher, Arizona, with yummy homemade salsa and delicious tacos. I stayed at The Lazy Traveler in Safford as it has my middle name, traveler, not lazy. It's a unique Inn that is walking distance from Main Street. So I ventured along Safford's Historic Downtown Main Street, where I happen to go into the quaintest coffee shop. Ginaveve's Market not only has coffee but gelato, a fresh salad bar with a wide variety of gourmet balsamic vinegar and olive oil, and so much more. After a Good Night's Sleep I drove up the winding newly paved road up breathtaking Mt. graham over 20 miles, where I saw two dear that just stopped to pose for a picture. I heard Rigg's Flat Lake is at the top, but I didn't make it that far. I cruised around town and the outskirts of town to see if this is a place I could see myself living. I was excited to see the big car dealers and all the new vehicles driving around. I also enjoyed seeing the beautiful courthouse, the lawn with the flag flying high, and the little statue on the corner of 8th and Main Street with the two small children reading together. It reminded me of when my children were little. There were several schools and churches, a couple of theaters, and a variety of small shops, eateries, hair salons, and restaurants. I did wonder into Debbie's, a craft shop on Main Street that not only has a ton of things to make crafts, but also has a variety of consignment items and classes. I also saw some beautiful properties with fantastic landscaping, some home improvements, and the construction of a variety of buildings. Heading west out of town, I had to stop at Gila Outdoors to check out the ATV trails in the area. I was happy to find there are more than I will ever see. Taylor Freeze was my last stop where I had a blueberry shake with real blue berries.
Special Kay is Moving to Safford I experienced a good community, and I felt like I could call this place home. That is the beginning of my "What is was like to move to Graham County" story. Next time, I will tell you about some of the first people I met that changed my life forever.
